Biography

My journey into East Asian medicine began in 1994 when I began attending a local Wu Style Tai Qi class. After studying Western Psychology at Birkbeck University and Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy in Nottingham, I returned to East Asian Medicine and completed four years training in Shiatsu Japanese bodywork. Keen to learn more about Traditional East Asian Medicine, I studied Traditional Chinese Acupuncture and undertook a clinical apprenticeship at the Asanté College of Chinese Medicine. Alongside this on-going training, I worked in addiction and pain clinics within the NHS whilst running a private practice, and held a place on the Professional Specific Board of the CNHC regulators during it’s conception. In 2009 I returned to the Japanese arts and studied a number of specialised Japanese acupuncture systems in the UK, Europe and Japan in addition to more focussed training in gynaecology, pregnancy and fertility. Owing to my mother’s wet macular degeneration and glaucoma I have taken a special interest in degenerative eye diseases and vision loss in general.

From 2011 onwards, I have travelled regularly to Japan to observe and train in the clinics of master practitioner Masakazu Ikeda sensei and Edward Obaidey who practice Traditional Japanese Acupuncture. I am enormously grateful to them for allowing me to absorb their deep knowledge and understanding of this powerful ancient healing art.

Additionally, I organise workshops in the UK bringing in master acupuncture and moxabustion teachers from all over the world. Where I can, I offer support to the art of Japanese Traditional Medicine with my editing and publishing skills – North American Journal of Oriental Medicine and text books.

My clients come to me for a wide range of issues including musculo-skeletal problems such as back pain, neck pain, shoulder or knee pain, migraines & headaches, anxiety and insomnia as well as chronic issues such as fatigue, poor digestion, post viral issues and parkinson’s, and for support during and following orthodox cancer treatment. Pre-conceptual support & fertility, menstrual irregularities & symptoms of menopause, labour preparation and support during pregnancy are some of the most common concerns amongst women.

More recently I have trained in Micro Acupuncture 48 – a system considered to be the Gold Standard in ophthalmic acupuncture and is a powerful form of acupuncture that is used to help people with macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, diabetic retinopathy and a host of other eye conditions. I have additional training in Boel Acupuncture for degenerative eye conditons and with Julian Scott.

I am co-founder of the Japanese Acupuncture Clinic Finchley in East Finchley and have worked at Bodymatters in Belsize Park, Hampstead since 2006.
